We live in a Digital Cloud— That is, a service-based world where SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, and XaaS are driving the industry forward at an exponential pace. Heck, even four years ago these SaaS startups we’re seeing launch daily, would have required premium infrastructure and the man-power behind it to keep services running. Now, anyone and their cat can spin up virtual *anything* for a couple bucks a day, leaving the master craft of design and user experience to fuel desire of every full-stack developer. The landscape changes daily: incubators, accelerators, and symposiums draw entrepreneurs from far and wide to culminate experience and divulge bardic lore. Founders far-and-wide drool over inspirational speeches while lusting for a Google/Facebook acquisition. Think Oculus… seriously, who saw *that* one coming??? Right now, social is EVERYTHING!
Business intelligence and associated services are the X-Factor these days. Take your pick of the numerous legacy applications and platform-heavy organizations who wish to offer services, but for many small and medium businesses, more value is gleaned from a couple ad-hoc SaaS’s and a copy of Quickbooks Pro. It all boils down to perceived value and compliance, not everyone needs Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle databases, and IBM Blade servers. One must right-size perceived future scalability, 3-5 years in advance, or be left with no other option than to forklift upgrade entire platforms, in a single step rather than incrementally. Forward investing in information technology and its required assets is crucial to keeping pace or you will be left in the dust of your competitors.
I have Awesome Ideas. Name and industry and I’ll throw out a half-dozen ideas off the top off my head. Want any of these ideas developed? Oh, now you’re in the territory of “teh awesome”!!! Please ignore me while I’m drooling, off in the corner, over a new R&D project. Life is not complete until I’m hands-on with an idea from conception, through r&d and architecture, development, prototyping, testing, and finally production. When it’s time to Get Shit Done, I am your man; I’m not even afraid of being on call 24/7/365.
